Chosen – Seems Intentionally Misleading In Re: Widgets

    I downloaded Chosen, first off – great theme, looks beautiful. Very clean. My problem is that nowhere does it say this theme doesn’t support sidebars or widgets. If you happen to look at Chosen Pro, it says “New Widget Areas” which would imply that Chosen has widget areas, and Chosen Pro has new widget areas. It goes on to say “Chosen Pro adds four new widget areas…”

    Seems completely intentionally misleading. I’m not going to buy Chosen Pro because of this and the deceptiveness used here cost me about 4 hours or so of my day, maybe more, and it benefited neither them nor me.

    Some transparency would be awesome and classy. Thanks!

    Thanks for trying Chosen, I’m sorry you feel it was deceptive.

    Chosen does not have any widget areas, and we never advertise it as having them. You can find this right away upon installing the theme by visiting the Widgets menu (Appearance > Widgets). It was not our intention to deceive anyone about this.

    The confusion is specifically around the word “new” in “new widget areas” which is just unfortunate. We simply meant that it adds 4 widget areas, but I can see how this could make it sound like Chosen already has widget areas. We’ll update the copy to make sure it doesn’t happen again.

    Yeah, I appreciate it and you’re right. I’ll take down the review I left. It’s a beautiful theme I just hadn’t used WordPress before and made the mistake of getting too far along before attempting to put in a widget and realizing I couldn’t do that.

    Obviously you don’t advertise having widgets, so that’s fair, but I feel like on Chosen Pro, instead saying “Chosen Pro comes with widget areas,” or has “4 widget areas” is more clear to people than using “new”.
