Chrome on Mac refreshing after submit

I have a cf7 form with ajax submission. It works well on all devices except chrome for mac, where I submit, the form gets submitted but it what happens is that the form refreshes & URL gets #form-id attached so it scrolls down again from the top of the page. The problem is then that I don’t see my custom success message.

Chrome version is 108 on Mac Ventura. I also tested on lower versions of Chrome and Mac OS but the issue doesn’t occur there.

I’m not seeing any javascript errors.
