    Hello Tobias,

I just noticed something, when the top bar is clicked it re-orders the table contents accordingly by alphabetical and in-kind contents. This is fantastic! However, it does not do this with a column of dates (format YYYY-MM-DD). Therefore when a second row is re-ordered from the header it messes up the chronological order of the contents and then this cannot be restored in the same manner, by pressing the date header. Is there a way to amend this?

    Many Thanks & Kind Regards,
    Callard

    Hi,

thanks for your post, and sorry for the trouble.

Can you please post a link to the page with the table where this problem happens, so that I can take a direct look? Thanks!

    Regards,
    Tobias

    Hello Tobias,

Thank you for taking a gander, it is very quirky.

    A couple different variations of:

    "columDefs": [ { "type": "string", "targets": [ 0 ] } ]

we’re tried but all with no difference in sort function for the date column. After re-searching the forums there were a couple other variations of date/date-eu/import as csv etc. that were tried for column 1 as well and nothing seemed to take.

As its kind of some places and not others, we also tried to see if it was some conflict with column-filter or filter-widgets etc but turning those on or off didn’t seem to affect anything either.

If it isn’t resolved, is there a way to turn the sort-by-pressing-the-header feature off entirely for effected tables only? That way folks don’t accidentally reorder the dates when reordering another column?

    Kind Regards,
    Callard

    Hi,

really strange, indeed. I have never really seen something like this before…
Yes, turning this feature off is easy: Just uncheck the “Sort” checkbox on the table’s “Edit” screen.

    Hi Tobias,

Of course, that’s what that button does, sorry for asking, should have been able to figure that one out myself; will switch them off for now. Hopefully the sort will randomly start working again one of these days. I’m fairly certain it used to work so its something I’ve gone and done somewhere recently no doubt.

    Kindest Regards,

    Hello Tobias,

Sorry for any hassles. Just adding that sometimes quirks can works for the better – with the sort turned off, the column-filter search has now been moved to the header using the method as outlined here:

    [table id=123 datatables_columnfilter="{sPlaceHolder:'head:after'}" /]

    Tablepress is amazing.

    Kind Regards,

    Hi,

yes, with the sorting turned off, moving the Column Filter to the header makes sense ??

    Best wishes,
    Tobias
