Circles to custom links

I have limited knowledge of wordpress development but as I understand the spun theme grabs the page id and the page permalink and arranges them on the home screen. I worked out how to replace the default posts with pages here:

Is it possible to link a category permalink to a circle? For example I would like my circle to link to something like this: https://sitename/?cat=4
Is it possible to have a mix of different links on the homepage? Could I somehow incorporate a category loop into the existing page loop? Any ideas would be much appreciated.
