    Hi,

I’ve been to the plugin website to check out the demo, and without meaning to sound derogatory, it looks a little pants.

However, I’m supposing that this can be solved by messing with the settings a little.

One thing that does need clarification before I even contemplate using this plugin however, is the ‘User Login’.

I’ve seen sources where it mentions that a new page opens for a user to place their new listing, however when I tried this on the demo website, I got taken to a standard WordPress login page.

For clarification purposes – do users normally get taken to a WordPress logon page if they wanted to place a listing?

    **Edit**

Also, are there plans to make the various page elements behave a little better on mobile devices?

    Hi Steve,

Yes, we integrate with the standard login for WP by default. If you use a login plugin, as long as it supports the WP codex parameter redirect_to, we can use it instead (we have settings to tell us the URL to use instead)

As for the look and feel, our demo is very basic but we now have themes to do a one-click switch of the look.

    You can read more here:

Lastly, as for the elements on mobile–we are mobile responsive if you are on a mobile-responsive theme. Our demo should work OK on mobile.

Which specific elements are you having issues with? If you could show me, if there is an issue, we can fix it.

Use https://imageshack.us if you need to.

Couple of Image Shack uploads then:

…is on a laptop and shows the ‘submit listing’, ‘view listings’ etc tabs all out of whack.

…is on a laptop with the screen sized to that of a mobile, where all the listings are squashed to the left side.

Ignore the orange bars – on Google Chrome Full Screen Capture, it looks like it captures the modal box trying to kick in all down the page.

Although the above screenshots are taken from the plugin website, the listings seem to look better on a little test I did on a test site, but the tabs at the top still go out of whack.

Personally, I reckon its the search box thats not playing nicely.

    Hi Steve,

When you’re viewing the site, you need to use the actual device to do the testing.

If you do it on a laptop, that doesn’t trigger the CSS specifically required for display on mobile. But in this case, it’s not the core issue.

When you say the “tabs are out of whack”–they are actually buttons and the buttons are supposed to move into a vertical line as the horizontal space shrinks. That’s what most mobile responsive sites do with buttons as a general rule. That’s expected behavior here.

Just used a mobile device and it’s the same.

The two tabs ‘View listings’ and ‘Submit a listing’ are inline at the top, with ‘Directory’ below and squashed up to the left, then the search box and ‘Search listings’ below all that.

The search box and search tab actually look to be properly responsive and centered actually, so it’s just the other three tabs.

If you notice – on your own demo website, the first two tabs are pashed right up to each other, with a larger space between the second and third tabs.

And that’s how it looks on a mobile in landscape view too.

It’s definitely an error in how the tabs display.

    Hi Steve,

I’ll have my developer test this from our demo and see what we find.

    Super,

It’s a really nice piece of kit, and the ‘menu’ display lets it all down.

I was getting a few results on Chrome developer tools earlier by messing around with the width:auto settings and changing it to various percentages, but I’m presuming your dev will come up with something even better!

    Hi Steve,

After some discussions with my developer–the CSS you might need to add to handle this would be theme dependent. We’d need to see a link to your site with the theme installed to see precisely what has to happen.

On my site, those changes would not be the same as what might be needed on yours. If you want something more workable, we’ll need a link to your site to see the resulting CSS.

    Please let me know.

    Basic CSS settings theme dependent?

Sounds a little strange to me!

Anyway, we only have it set up on a test site, not the main one.

We weren’t putting it on the main one until it was sorted out.

And if it is indeed a theme apecific issue, the test site version would be of no use to your dev whatsoever.

    Hi Steve,

Yes, theme CSS has a big impact on things–many themes style the most basic of elements to change the look, so they would also have an impact on us as well, intentional or not. It’s not like themes use classes and IDs for everything in all cases. Some themes do (the really good ones) but even the good ones add a few elements with general padding for buttons and such, just to make things easier. My own theme is a well-known Genesis child theme, and it’s showing that exact behavior just FYI.
