    Hello,
On a website I manage, I got the following message a few hours ago:

Une erreur de type E_ERROR a été causée dans la ligne 85 du fichier [website root]/wp-content/plugins/jetpack/vendor/automattic/jetpack-connection/src/class-client.php. Message d’erreur : Uncaught Error: Class ‘Jetpack_Signature’ not found in [website root]/wp-content/plugins/jetpack/vendor/automattic/jetpack-connection/src/class-client.php:85
    Stack trace:
    #0 [website root]/wp-content/plugins/jetpack/vendor/automattic/jetpack-connection/legacy/class-jetpack-ixr-client.php(61): Automattic\Jetpack\Connection\Client::remote_request(Array, ‘

(Note: I replaced the real website root path by [website root] for the report, the proper one is in the original message.)

I noticed that I was disconnected from the Jetpack (wordpress.com) account used, so I logged in again. I also reinstalled the plugin and was disconnected again afterwards.

I’m not sure if there’s actually an issue related to the Jetpack_Signature class in the plugin or if it’s a setting issue on my side.

What version of WordPress and PHP are you running?

    Thread Starter terzag

    (@terzag)

Wordpress 5.5 and PHP 7.3.18 (newest version available at my hosting service, no PHP 7.4 yet).

I also reinstalled the plugin and was disconnected again afterwards.

Can you share a link to the site so we can check for any specific connection errors on our end?

When I say I’m disconnected, it’s in the admin part and I can’t give you admin access to the website, obviously.

When I go in the Jetpack dashboard, I get a message saying that there was an issue logging at wordpress.com. I can login again and it seems to work but when I come back to the admin, I’m logged out again in the Jatpack dashboard.

    Hi there,

What is the site URL? There are some things we can look for on our end to check for any error statuses.

When I go in the Jetpack dashboard, I get a message saying that there was an issue logging at wordpress.com. I can login again and it seems to work but when I come back to the admin, I’m logged out again in the Jatpack dashboard.

This sounds like it may be a cache issue. Have you tried logging in using a different browser or clearing your browser’s cache to see if you receive this same message?

    (@terzag)

I doubt it’s a cache issue as the message appears on a different computer than mine, from what I’ve been told. Anyway, I’ve just tried to clear the cache and also with a different browser on mine and it still happens.

Besides, the original alert about the issue was sent by e-mail from the WordPress autocheck functionality that has been introduced in 5.2.

Not sure if it’s related but the day before we got the e-mail, I upgraded WP to 5.5. Also, I’ve had to install the jQuery Migrate Helper (https://www.ads-software.com/plugins/enable-jquery-migrate-helper/) for compatibility with another plugin, not sure if it might be related to the issue.

The weird thing is that Jetpack seems to work properly: the dashboard displays stats and I assume it works as expected. It seems to actually be connected to the related account, except that when I load the page, I get an alert at the top saying that it can’t connect to wordpress.com.

If you give us your site’s URL we can check if there might be a connection issue between your site an WordPress.com. We don’t need access to your dashboard to be able to check this. We just need to know your URL.

Okay, I don’t see any connection issues for that site on our end.

Can you check if the error goes away if you reconnect Jetpack?

I’ve tried to disconnect/reconnect from the dashboard and it still happens. Sometimes it’s fine and there’s no connection issue alert when accessing the dashboard (was already the case before I disconnected/reconnected) and I’m starting to wonder if it’s actually related to the PHP issue that I reported at the beginning.

I realize that I forgot a part of the message in my initial report: the mail mentioned that the issue was triggered on the wp-login.php page, so I would assume that it’s when initializing the plugin?

AFAIK (I’m not the direct recipient of the e-mail), there hasn’t been a new alert since the initial one that happened two days ago, so I’m currently assuming that it was due to a problem when updating Jetpack to the latest version (I reinstalled it manually just in case). I was concerned that there was a compatibility issue with WP 5.5 which would break the website.

If the connection issue in the dashboard is an unrelated issue and only happens when displaying the stats, it’s not a big deal.

If it only happened the first time the user logged in after the update to WordPress 5.5, and you no longer see that PHP error either, it’s probably just a file location that changed in the code somewhere. I’ve seen this happen before with Core and plugin updates. If the error has since gone away and you don’t notice any issues with how the site or Jetpack actually works, then I think we can ignore this.

I don’t know what could be triggering the WordPress.com connection error on the WP-Admin stats page – as mentioned above, I see no connection errors for your site on our end. But if it doesn’t appear to affect how things work either, as you say, you might just need to ignore that as well.

But please let us know if you do spot anything that’s not working – new information like that might help track down the cause.

Ok, I’ll let you know if something wrong happens.
