I installed the plug in last night for classic editor because the new editor was an absolute nightmare. I couldn’t even add images without the cursor jumping to the top of the page and adding pictures in the wrong places. Since I couldn’t just drag and drop pictures either, I kept having to go into the HTML editor and having to cut and paste images that way. I finally had enough so I installed the classic editor.
I go in this morning to start a new post and now the only options are visual composer and Gutenberg editor and neither is letting me type anything other than the title. I am losing a lot of time trying to figure these things out when the classic editor was working perfectly for me, now I can’t even get that working. This is really frustrating.
Anyone else having this problem and know how to fix it? Am I just missing something? I really am not savvy with these things so once I found my role with classic editor, I was good to go. Is there a way to totally undo the latest update?

  • Hello Mamatcha,

Simply go to the Settings ? Writing page in your WordPress admin area. You will see the option to do this under “Classic editor settings”. Don’t forget to click on the save changes button to your site settings. You will now be able to see a new link under the Posts menu to create new posts using the classic editor.

If this doesnt help I found an external source for WP beginners here:

    best of luck.

    Thank you!

I did try both of these and neither worked for me but somehow in the midst of my frustration, it occurred to me to disable visual composer. Once I did that, classic editor was back and the “disable Gutenberg” plugin worked.
Phew…I hope that’s the last time I have to see the word Gutenberg.

    Thank you for your help!

hahaha Awesome… No nightmares please!!! My absolute pleasure Good luck on your website.

I had the same problem of the classic editor not working. I deactivated all of my plugins and tried them one by one. The culprit was the yoast seo plugin. After deactivating it.. The classic editor worked properly. Wow.. what a nightmare this Gutenberg issue is causing. I am glad that the forums are here for all of us to read and learn tips and tricks from others. Hopefully, wordpress team will find a good solution for all of this havoc.

Hi.. tried all of the above, still no classic editor.

I dont even have the ability to change this in settings. I am reverting back to and older WP version, this new one just sux. No way I will ever use it. If they dont fix it, I would rather wstart using a new CMS

    hello,

as of today 6/6/19 classic editor stopped working. with it own pages time out. I turned it off and was able to create a page , now when I try and edit a page all I get is a white screen, that times out.

Hoping that this forum is checked regularly? Having a work stoppage issue with classic editor, as in it’s gone completely. (This just started within the last few days) Blog posts are fine, it’s the pages that are totally unusable. HTML code in all views and no ability to correct them, forces me to go to tagDiv Composer which I’ve turned off (no luck). Disabled just about every plug-in I have, including Yeost SEO as mentioned in this thread, no luck. Where I normally access the elements under my page template > General tab says I cannot use a pagebuilder sidebar?? I never tried to use one, the page(s) are just enforcing it. Went to template settings and turned all pagebuilder sidebars off, no luck.

Pages developed by classic editor can’t be edited now and those I edited with the tagDiv Compaser are now locked to that plugin. Considerable amount of work to convert pages to tagDiv and have my first client review stuck. See NO Gutenburg references anywhere in any settings in my editor for me to switch off.

Bluehost says this isn’t them, they suggest WordPress or the theme (Newspaper) support. Neither of which have a call line for immediate assistance. Dead in the water here, anybody have a suggestion?
