• Hi,

I updated to WordPress 5.6 today and now when I try to add Youtube video links the video does not show up as it had before. When I add video into Guttenberg it’s fine.

I did the plugin conflict test be switching everything off. It turned out it seems to be Classic Editor itself causing the problem. I tested this by switching everything of except Classic Editor and the problem persisted.

Further to this, when I try a different method of adding a video, eg adding embed code to the “text” tab, this does work, but then I can’t seem to return to the “visual” tab and I then can’t add any other content.

I’m working with an old site. Switching off Classic Editor seems to cause problems in other ways, so I could do with finding a quick solution to this.

    Any help greatly appreciated.

    Regards

    D

  • Also having this issue. Switching back to “Text” tab and back to “Visual” lets the client edit, but there is a formatting line added:

    <span style=”display: inline-block; width: 0px; overflow: hidden; line-height: 0;” data-mce-type=”bookmark” class=”mce_SELRES_start”>?</span>

before and after the post that makes it un-editable once saved and back in “Visual” editing tab.

On “View” the edits show, but once updated the edits do not show “live.”

Any help / suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

I had to install the following plugin to make it work:

    Enable jQuery Migrate Helper

Maybe it will help you solve the issue.

Thanks for your suggestion Metin. I installed it and retried – videos still not embedding.

Funnily enough, this site did have Enable JQuery migrate installed on it, but I took it off as I didn’t think I needed it anymore. It’s not meant to be a permanent solution.

Either way, yesterday before updating to 5.6 I could add videos without any problem and without jquery migrate. So in reality it doesn’t make sense that jquery migrate would fix it.

It’s an irritating issue, I’m starting to think something corrupted during the update – it did seem to take an unusual amount of time to perform the update. This site is on a server not chosen by me.

I’m having the same issue. No problem before the update and now it’s a nightmare. I somehow managed to paste an iframe into the text editor even though the screen was blank but I don’t know how I did it and I can’t seem to do it again!
I hope they fix this quickly!!!!

Same issue, I deactivated an old version of Essential Grid, that seems to have done the trick.
Enable JQuery migrate appears not to have any effect with 5.6.

OK, that’s interesting. I have a new version of Essential Grid, which is in use so I can’t deactivate it forever, but I just a quick test and deactivated it, went and pasted youtube short url and the video showed up.

However, when I switch between visual editor and text tabs and back again the video has gone and only the code shows. Definitely something not right, but there is obviously a conflict of some sort.

I am having the same issue.

The classic editor in the visual editor does not display anything. When I switch to text editor it shows the code and when I switch back to the visual editor the text is strange looking and not right. Then when I save as draft all the text disappears!

    When will this be fixed?

Same here, plugin broken after update. When I try to edit, nothing shows in visual editor mode. Switch to text and I can see what’s there, but when I save, nothing saves.

Same here, plugin broken (WP Accessibility Helper) after update.

Disable all plugins and turn it on again by checking which one is causing the problem.

No plugin is causing this issue. The issue is the Classic Editor is not working correctly after the WordPress 5.6 update. It’s not any other plugin causing this.

I am just realizing that it isn’t another plug in either. SO what is the fix then. I can’t stand editting in Gutenberg. I need a fix. Any suggestions anyone?

We are all just hoping that the creators of the Classic Editor make the needed updates.

Yeah no kidding. I am struggling to find out how to switch to text to add HTML ads. Any idea how to do that without classic editor ?

What I have found is when editing a post, switch to text editor, back to visual, then leave the page without saving as draft or updating.

Then come back to edit the post, it should be in text editor, switch back to visual editor now and it works normally.

Do your changes, save it and it will go back to working in this odd manner and then you need to go through this process again to edit.

There is no text editor in this edit view. Without the classic editor I am viewing it in gutenberg. The only options you have are visual editor or code editor.
