• I set up a nice site using Edin, but my client is a little troubled by the fact that the classic nav menu loads a second or two after the rest of the page. It’s actually very annoying. I don’t know for sure if this is an issue with the server we’re on (I don’t have a choice of servers) or if it’s an issue with the theme. Please have a look if you like: https://mg.princeton.edu/

    Because the menu loads last, it makes the page jump. This happens for every page, even if it’s cached.

    Does anyone else have this problem and have a workaround?

    I see what you mean on the site above. I wasn’t able to replicate the menu lag on my test site running Edin with a classic menu, so I wonder if something specific to your site is causing the issue.

    To rule out a plugin conflict, you could try temporarily deactivating all your plugins. Does the problem persist? If the problem is gone, reactivate your plugins one-by-one, look at the site in between each reactivation, to find the conflict.

    I actually tried this theme out on a different server and it was problem-free, so I suspect it is the server, or possibly something in the child theme (because I have no control over the child theme – it is on a university multisite and I can’t control much of anything). There is even a limit to what plugins I can deactivate.

    Aw, sorry to hear that. Are you able to try testing the child theme on the other server where you’re not seeing the issue, to confirm the theory about the server being the culprit?

    It’s possible – I could ask the admin to send me the file.

    You know I just checked – the only enabled plugins I could turn off were the various jetpack modules. So I turned them all off then turned back on ONLY the essentials. Seems just a bit better now, but I’m not convinced that’s the problem. I will try to get hold of the child theme. Thanks for the idea!

    For what it’s worth, my test site also has Jetpack active, but we’re surely running a different set of modules. Good luck with your testing!
