I want to completely delete Code Snippets so that when I reinstall it that I get all of the snippet samples. As I’ve edited some of those files, I no longer have clean versions of them, and I’d like to start fresh.

I’ve downloaded all of my custom files in JSON format, but when I did an uninstall and reinstall through the wp-admin dashboard, all of the files came back even though the main folder under wp-content/plugins was removed.

There is another place where my snippet files are being stored. How do I find that to remove them, so that I can do a clean reinstall?

  • Did you completely uninstall it from the Code Snippets SETTINGS page? If not, then do that – uninstalling using the WP plugin page apparently leaves the snippets behind in your database. (wp_snippets table if you look at the database in phpMyAdmin – the name of the table will vary, depending on what you named the database, but it will end with “snippets”)

You will need to turn on the ‘Complete Uninstall’ option on the Code Snippets settings page, and then delete the plugin through the Plugins menu. Otherwise, the data will be preserved to make sure there’s no accidental loss.

You can also just manually delete the snippets table in your WordPress database, and Code Snippets will automatically recreate it.

Hi Shea – Thanks for taking the time to write. Sure enough that little flag was there in Settings if you knew to look for it. Good idea about the database table. I usually don’t play there because I don’t have a reason to do so.

@paddy-duncan Thank you for your valuable help. I was also honored by the plugin author commenting before I had a chance to fix my issue this morning.
