SiteGround caching is being prevented by a cookie created by the plugin “Cleantalk Spam Protect”:

    set-cookie: apbct_timestamp=1614841197; path=/; HttpOnly; SameSite=Lax
    x-proxy-cache: MISS
    x-proxy-cache-info: 0 NC:000000 UP:SKIP_CACHE_SET_COOKIE

    Can this be fixed?

    Hello, @gtphoenix.

Please, enable the option “Use alternative mechanism for cookies”:
? WordPress Admin Page —> Settings —> Anti-Spam by CleanTalk —> Advanced settings —> set the option “Use alternative mechanism for cookies” to “On” —> Save Changes.

    Did it help?

No, unfortunately not. Any other ideas?

    Hello,

Have just looked at the code. It’s the solution. No doubt.

If this option is enabled we simply don’t set this cookie ( from your initial post).

Could you check it once more, please?

P.S.: Checked twice. Ran the test. No apbct_timestamp if Use alternative mechanism for cookies enabled.

Neverthless, it does not work with the plugin activated and the “Use alternative mechanism for cookies” turned On. As a test, I changed the “Set cookies” to Off and the cache DOES work with that setting. However, according to the language for that setting it negates the efficacy of the plugin. Please advise.

    Hello, @gtphoenix

    Thank you for your feedback.

I’ve passed the info you provided to developers.

We’ll contact you within 1-2 days.

@gtphoenix yes it does negates the efficiency of the plugin.

I’m sorry but i should ask a few stupid questions:
    0. Did you hit “Save changes” button when you disable the setting?
    1. A you sure that exactly this cookie (apbct_timestamp) breaks the cache?
    2. Does the cache plugin generate the report about broken cache instantly? Maybe there is some way to clear cache for this cache plugin?
    3. Does the SiteGround using DataBase caching? It could save setting, still send the old data from database, even if you’re tried the other setting and it worked.

Anyway, please, install this version. I’ve disable the native cookie for apbct_timestamp, so it shouldn’t break the cache now. Let us know if the different cookie breaks it.

Good morning, yes 0. I pressed Save 1. I am sure because deactivating the plugin restores the cache to functioning, activating it the opposite 2. yes the effect is immediate as per #2 and I did try to activate and cleared the cache, still did not work and 3. honestly I am not sure. Having said all that, Thank You! Because the link you provided with the altered plugin worked fine, I activated it and the cache still functions.

    Hi @gtphoenix
Thank you for your answers. I will give your answer to @safronik.
We’re glad to know that the dev version helped you.

We’ve been having this problem on our sites with CleanTalk installed. It’s caused a cache MISS and a similar cookie.

I’ve found that disabling and enabling the plugin fixes it for now. I am monitoring it to see if it comes back.

What is the long term solution to this?

I should clarify if the stable release contains these fixes.

    Hello @padcreative

Firstly:: Proceed to the plugin settings and disable “Use alternative mechanism for cookies” setting. Save changes. Clear the cache. Give it some time to stabilize (6 hours will be enough). I think that there is some cache mechanism you don’t aware about.

Secondly: If it didn’t help install this version:
    https://github.com/CleanTalk/wordpress-antispam/releases/download/Special/cleantalk-spam-protect.zip
I’ve disable the native cookie for apbct_timestamp, so it shouldn’t break the cache now. Let us know if the different cookie breaks it.

In any uotcome, please, let us know the result.
