Clear filter broken after update

In 1.5.1 I could make links from elsewhere in the site to /shop/?filter_cat_2s=brandname and the Clear All button would reset the filter and show the new filter result (all products). After updating to 1.5.8 the Clear All button only resets the filter but then does not reload to show the new results.

I noticed that now the link needs to have &redirect appended like /shop/?filter_cat_2s=brandname&redirect . There must be a good reason for this because now I need to manually update these hardcoded links. Can you please explain to keep me happy?
