    Hi,

    Your fAQ says “Autoptimize does not have its proper cache purging mechanism, as this could remove optimized CSS/JS which is still referred to in other caches, which would break your site.” It goes on to say there are plugins to clear it. However, there’s a Clear Cache button, plus a Delete Cache option in the dropdown menu – when it is advisable to use these, please?

    Thanks,
    Steve

    P.S. Sorry, I think the Clear Cache button is another plugin – can’t check right now – but there’s still the dropdown Delete option.

    hey @stevenw123;
    There indeed is a “delete cache” option in the dropdown menu + a “save settings & delete cache” button on the AO settings-screen.

    I will on average clear cache a couple of times per year, mainly for testing purposes. Given correct configuration (cfr. FAQ indeed) cache size generally should be very manageable. I’m at 1MB now after purging the cache yesterday, it will typically change when plugin updates result in new CSS/ JS being optimized. Small & very simple site though, so that 1MB is not necessarily an indication of what your should have. Point is that your cache-size can (should) grow rather fast for let’s say a couple of hours (assuming you have traffic) and then level out to something that should be stable.

    hope this clarifies,
    frank

    Thanks for the reply, Frank.
    Unfortunately, it doesn’t really clarify things. Your FAQ says not to delete it because it could break the site, but there’s a Delete Cache option staring you in the face. On a fully-functional site, is there ever a reason to delete and if so, what indications should you watch for that would signify you should do that, please?

    the point is; clearing the cache automatically could break your site, pushing the “delete cache” button means you’re on the site, actively making changes, meaning you’ll notice if anything would break ??

    indications; if it become too big after 3 years, 8 months & 12 days of continuous running maybe? B-)
