Hi, just a general question! And I apologize if this info is somewhere and I just missed it, but we wanted to see how often people are clicking on stories in the popular post component to see if it actually is making an impact and keeping people engaged for longer on our site. Is there a way to see that data? I know we can view overall story views, but would love to know if we can parse how many of those are coming from our popular posts implementation!

    Thank you!

    Hi @ralinke,

You could use Google Tag Manager for this. I found this video that explains how to track clicks on specific links that may help: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tbth_ozj6W4

In WPP’s case you want to track clicks on links that have the wpp-post-title class (see around minute 16:49).

I haven’t tested this myself though but I believe it should work just fine. Give that a try and let me know how it goes.

I know you aren’t asking for feedback but since I visited your site I do have some notes that may help. I hope you don’t mind.

    • Your Trending tips list -as far as I can tell at least- is only visible within articles which limits the reach it may have.
    • When you view an article, the Trending tips section is only visible at the beginning of the article. Most readers will likely forget that it’s there once they start scrolling down the page since it won’t be visible anymore and by the time they reach the end of the page they’ll likely click away (or at least that’s what I would do as a visitor.) If you could get it to stick to the viewport as the user scrolls up/down it might catch your visitor’s attention (see How to Create a Simple Image Slider with jQuery for example.) Alternatively, you could also add a Trending tips section to the footer section of your site (or even right after the content ends). That way, when readers reach the end of the page they may notice it there too.
