I’m in the PAGES module of WordPress and when I click to edit the page titled “HOMEPAGE” — it takes me to an entirely different page of my website. It takes me to a page where the only content that shows is a logo that is part of our partner showcase. Even the permalink is wrong. I have no way of getting to my homepage to make simple edits. This is happening to my homepage and a secondary page on my site. Most of the other pages are populating correctly within WordPress. I should add that, externally, my website is appearing normally and doesn’t seem to be having any problems.

    Does anyone have any insight?

  • Hi there!

Just to confirm, you’re trying to edit a page from the admin, that is, from /wp-admin/edit.php?post_type=page

What does the edit link on the home look like?

    Something like this?

    /wp-admin/post.php?post=13&action=edit

Does it contain the correct page id?

This is what the link looks like when I hover over the EDIT link:

    /wp-admin/post.php?post=17&action=edit&lang=en&classic-editor

And to be honest, I’m not sure if that is the correct page ID. When I hover over the EDIT link for the logo — in the partner showcase module — it looks like this:

    /wp-admin/post.php?post=4191&action=edit&classic-editor

So they don’t have the same page ID, yet when i try to edit the homepage, clicking EDIT under homepage takes me to the logo.

    That is strange indeed!

What if you were to type in the URL to the page in your browser, so <your_domain>/wp-admin/post.php?post=17&action=edit&lang=en&classic-editor

Check if that takes you to the right page.

When I hover over the EDIT link for the logo — in the partner showcase module — it looks like this:

If you’re using a page builder of some sorts, then maybe that’s expected: if you click on the logo it will allow you to edit the logo.

I can’t be sure what’s causing the issue, however if you’re running multiple plugins, it might be worth trying to deactivate a plugin one at a time to see if one is causing it.

To turn off a plugin in WordPress, follow these steps:

    1. Login to your WordPress dashboard
    2. Click on “Plugins” on the left-hand menu
    3. Find the plugin you want to turn off and click “Deactivate” under the plugin name
    4. Once you click “Deactivate”, the plugin will be turned off

You can reactivate the plugin once you’re done testing.

Yup, it was the logo showcase plugin. Once I deactivated it, I was able to edit the homepage again.

    Thank you for the help!
