I recently tried to update my agreement boxes, and when I hit save, all of the settings in Pie Register went back to vanilla default settings, including the agreement boxes.

I have been able to repeat this problem by repeatedly making changes to the agreement boxes and it will randomly reset the plugin back to vanilla defaults.

If there is anything I can offer in the way of helping you track this down, I am more than willing.

  • Well, I don’t agree completely with you, and first of all, I’m not the developer.

I agree that you should keep on your project, and if you can’t, close it.

For a long time I’ve been using a completely free and amazing multilingual plugin, but the developer could not handle to find time to update it. It’s a kick for all the users, sure, but I know that time is the most valuable thing in life, and first of all you should spend it in something that gives you money to eat. Right? Sure you do this too.

My point is that good things require work, and work must be paid. For that reason, I switched that plugin to another one which is not free, and I paid for that. As I also pay for templates I use and other services. This way I’m sure I’ll have support and updates and I can demand on the developers.

I understand that a project like a plugin must have support, but I think that while it’s a free plugin, anybody can force the developer to work on it.

What bothered to me on Sho-Down was the lack of respect to somebody who gave his time for free. And instead of spending time blaming on him, he would better search for an alternative. Nobody forces us to use this plugin. It’s free, you can’t complain about it, and if you do, pay the developer a beer. I also like to get paid for my job.

As I am in this thread, my language also uses this characters and I have this problem. That troubles me but I can’t force nobody to work for free, so instead of complaining I’ll search for an alternative if I need to.

By the way, which plugin did you switch to? I’m all for donations and paying for things that work, I’m looking for a plugin that lets users pick their own password, that’s my main thing.

    Just a couple of points:

    1. Plugin authors are under no obligation to support their work and everything they post here is done on their own time. It’s nice when they do or post on the plugin page “Support is not provided” but there is no obligation for them to do so. In this case the plugin author posted a link for where to get support.
    2. Would you help people on your own time for free if they were cranky? ?? The plugin seems to work except for localization issues (see below). Right?

Regarding the first point it took me 30 seconds to find this on the plugin page.

    Support

Have you tried visiting that support page and leaving a comment there?

Yea and that’s why the WordPress plugin section is a mess full of broken plugins.

This is being tested on a live site (clone of my main site), it just doesn’t work, the settings keep resetting. I’m on the Email Notification page and the Send as HTML and Convert new lines to
    tags will not stay checked.

I did visit the plugin page and saw many comments about this issue with no replies from the author. I’m moving on.

Keep update the plugin. This problem had been resolved in previous versions.

    Thanks
