A new site, still under construction. Client’s domain name is with GoDaddy, Nameservers point to Blue Host. Web hosting is with Blue Host, MX records in Blue Host point to google.com. (Their IT person set them up to use Google Suites.)

The To and From emails in the Contact Form setup can be either info@ or [email protected], I’ve tried a multitude of combinations. The form works fine, but in testing the client does not receive the emails from the form at either of those accounts. I’ve added my regular and gmail addresses as recipients, as well as the client’s personal mac.com email address, and all come through with no problem, so the form is definitely working.

What makes this situation even stranger is that their old site, https://thedenvershowroom.com/contact-us/ has a working contact form that was somehow set up through an old version of Jetpack (the entire old site has gone 2 years with no updates at all) but the email form option doesn’t appear to be available in the new version of Jetpack.

Anyone have an idea what’s going on and how I can fix this? Earlier I tried a different Contact plugin, with the same problem.

  • Wow – that’s a really complicated email setup for the site. It’s a tricky one & likely to cause problems if you don’t have strong experience in dealing with setting up email sending from WP.

Simple email sending from a hosted domain is a lot simpler & less prone to setup errors. If you or your client don’t have clear reasons for using the complex setup described, I’d encourage you consider this simple approach.

If that’s no possible, you will likely have to use SMTP to send emails in Contact Form 7 & you may be wise to look for someone with suitable experience to assist you.

Thanks Neil, the client’s IT guy set up the email this way for a couple of reasons and will not change it. I’ll check out your link, will update here whether or not the SMTP suggestions work.

SMTP will work if you set it up properly. If it doesn’t work for you, your setup is incorrect.

Thanks. I installed WP Mail SMTP and did follow all of the instructions, inserted all of the credentials/client id stuff, etc. But when I clicked the “Authorize: Allow plugin to send emails using your Google account.” I got as far as “XXXX wants to access your Google Account” I got an error in my browser window, “Not acceptable! An appropriate representation of the requested resource could not be found on this server. This error was generated by Mod_Security.”

I saw in the comments below the instructions that the host (bluehost) may not be compatible with Gmail integration, but since a form is working on the old site and my new one is in a subfolder, I’m confused. More research produced some code I could add into the .htaccess file, which I did, but that didn’t change anything.

I’m just stumped at this point. Emails are being sent by the form (I’ve had to disable WP Mail SMTP for now). I have 4 email addresses for recipient–two of my Gmails, my domain-based email and the client’s, and the client is the only one not receiving emails from the website. So it has to be either something with Bluehost or Gmail Suites. Or this Mod_Security thing.

UPDATE: Turns out the problem was with how the email was set up with the hosting company. Again, domain is with GoDaddy, NS set to Bluehost, web hosting with Bluehost, emails being sent to Google Suites via MX records. The person who set it up the emails did not set it to Remote Email Exchanger. Once that was updated the domain-based emails through the Contact Form starting being delivered.

    Hello,

I am having a similar issue… I can receive all the contact forms except if my clients have a Gmail or Yahoo account.

I am hoping someone has some good advice.. we have tried everything above and to no avail..

    Keeping my head up..
