    Hello Rene,

First of all, thank you for such a simple and powerful plugin. Like many others have commented, I really appreciate your work on this. I have a situation that has me a bit worried and I hope you can give me an opinion. Here’s the situation:

To save some money, a client has asked me to use my domain to create a subdomain for her new site. I think she should have her own hosting. She says it’s just for now, until she’s ready to move to her own live environment.

This is what I’ve (reluctantly) done so far, does it look ok?

First, I have simply used your plugin to create https://mydomain/clientsubdomain. So far it’s an exact copy of mydomain, I’ve made no changes (yet).

Second, I have created a new user with her own username and password. I have granted Subscriber only privileges. She needs to be able to view her site, and I want to grant as little access to the Dashboard as possible.

Third, I deactivated your plugin so that the new user could View Site as well as see the (very limited) WordPress Dashboard. Was this the right thing to do?

Here is my worry: Staging is not really a fully independent environment for a new site, correct? For example, I would need to create a new and separate database first, correct? Then delete all my existing posts and pages (and possibly plugins and themes)? And once the site is complete on the subdomain, the site will need to be migrated to either a new account with my host, or another host altogether.

Her issue is that she wants to remain “invisible” until her site is ready to go. I was thinking of solving the problem differently. Either I build on localhost, and she can view progress via remote desktop at scheduled times. Or I convince her to get her domain name registered and put hosting in place. Elementor’s “Coming Soon” mode is an easy way to hide work in progress on her live site .

Or should I use WP-Staging?? Thank you for reading and thanks so much for your help ??

    Hi Roy,

in your case WP Staging is not the right tool.

The staging website should not be used as a production website especially not for clients because tis staging website would be located in the same database as your website.

I recommend to create a new database and to set up an entirely independent website.
This can be on your server of course.

    Have a great holiday season.
