cloner.php

    Hi,

    during an inspection of one of my client websites I found there is a cloner.php in the root of the website. After closely inspecting this file it seems it is somewhat related to ManageWP, is this the case? Does this plugin put a cloner.php file in the root of the website where the plugin is installed? If so can you please elaborate why exactly this is happening and why there are no further information found on the web? I’m just curious about the “background”. Many thanks

    Hey there,

    cloner.php file is used by our Backups, Restore and Clone tools. When a backup, clone or restore are started on your dashboard, cloner.php file is uploaded to the website root and when completed the file is automatically removed.

    In case it is not removed automatically you can safely remove it once the process is complete.

    Ok, sounds somewhat legit. But perhaps you could add a comment on top of the file to let everyone know where it is coming from? Cause it took quite some time for me to find out that this could be from the ManageWP Plugin (and still I was not fully certain of it). I think this could be quite helpful for others too maybe.
