Cloning stuck?

    Hi,

    I’d like to know if the cloning process continues even when I exit the NS Cloner tab?
    Yesterday when I started the cloning, I reached more than 50% in just a few hours. After leaving my laptop on overnight, it was at 70% when I woke up at 4AM. I left it again and 4 hours later, I’m just at 71%. To rest my laptop, I decided to exit the NS Cloner tab and turned my laptop off, and even more than 1 hour later, I’m still at 71%.

    I can see very little progress on the items processed. It says I have 10776075 items to process and I understand it can take a long time, but how long should I wait at this rate? I’ve been stuck at 71% for a while now. Will this take at least 2 days?

    Okay, update.

    7 hours since I started this thread, I’m still at 71%…

    At this rate, if it’s 1% per day, it will take me weeks to clone 1 site…

    Hi @anneyu – normally site clones take a few minutes, so this is way out of usual range, no doubt due to the fact that it’s 10 million database rows is very uncommonly high for most WordPress sites and the NS Cloner plugin isn’t really able/optimized to handle extremely large sites like that (performance degrades very quickly with that magnitude of database size).

    We did add a new feature in a recent release that may help you – you can adjust performance by customizing the performance settings here: https://prnt.sc/ttevca By raising those two numbers you can significantly increase cloning speed (I’d start with 10x the defaults to begin with and see how/if that works). The caveats are 1) it puts a heavier load on the server and depending on your environment could result in errors if you raise those numbers too high (that’s why they’re low by default) and 2) even with those adjustments, there’s a chance that the NS Cloner might just not work well for cloning a site as large as yours. We’ve seen dramatic improvements possible by changing those settings, though, so it’s worth a try.

    Do I have to keep the NS Cloner tab open? I left it at 22%, shut my laptop down, then half a day later, it’s still at 22%.

    You don’t generally need to keep the tab open unless something on your server is blocking server-side requests, in which case the plugin will show a message about not closing the tab. But if it hasn’t moved after hours of waiting, it’s probably not going to be able to complete at all and you’d likely be better off cancelling and trying again with different performance settings as described above.
