The upgrade to Cloudflare version 3.8.1 causes a critical error on WordPress requiring a owner to go in to their WordPress plugins directory and move the cloudflare directory out of it.

  • I’m seeing the same issue, I uninstalled it after getting into admin. I chmoded the director to 000, logged in and then chmoded it back to 755 and deactivated and uninstalled it.

We just released 3.8.2 of the plugin which contains a fix. Please install that version of the plugin

My sincere apologies. I’ve made an error preparing 3.8.1 release. Release 3.8.2 is fixed, but if you are unable to access admin panel, then you’ll need to manually upload new version, or disable/delete plugin and let WordPress update it.

No worries, these things happen. Thanks for the ultra-quick response.

WordPress’ new “recovery mode” allowed me to login and update the plugin.

With WordPress’ new auto-update feature, this must have brought down thousands of sites! I hope they all find their way back online.

@epatryk @ggalow On the Cloudflare website within the dashboard, there is an API error. Is this related or 2 different issues?

@mddsharp can you be a bit more specific about what you are seeing?

It’s when I login at cloudflare.com at the bottom when clicking on any configuration options. May not be related.

ah hm interesting. Yeah that is NOT related to WP or APO, but I will make sure folks are aware internally. thanks

@ggalow Yea, I see a massive groundswell of others experiencing the same and see an official notice from Cloudflare. All is good.

Again, thank you and @epatryk for the ultra-quick 3.8.2 recovery.

3.8.2 fixes my issues. However, it is impossible to update the plugin from WordPress admin as the error prevents login. If the site is using Softaculous, the site’s plugins can be upgraded from the Softaculous WordPress menu via the control panel rather than logging into the site.

yes unfortunately doing anything in the plugin with CF with 3.8.1 will trigger some nasty issues: We posted this https://community.cloudflare.com/t/cloudflare-wordpress-plugin-update-critical-error/210206/10?u=adspedia on how you can get out of that bad state. Unfortunately there isn’t 1 solution since many providers and wordpress setups vary greatly.

works with multilingual websites? I want to update WordPress to 5.5.1 and I have woocommerce multilingual and WPML but my website is super slow. I have 92 products only and no traffic or visitors at all on daily basis. I am updating woocommerce right now as well to le. View version 4.5.2 details
