    Hi,

Since last week we started to get an error while trying to connect to the feed link on our website

    Error 524 Ray ID: 6a7cb4c32ad57705 ? 2021-11-02 10:33:41 UTC

What kind of firewall allow rule should we add to access to the facebook feed link on our website?

    Hi @ceyhunyildiz,

The error Error 524 is usually associated with a server issue. From this link, it can be that Cloudflare sent out a message but closed before Facebook replied back. From that link:

Error 524 error indicates that Cloudflare made a successful TCP connection to the origin web server, but the origin did not reply with an HTTP response before the connection timed out. … If the origin doesn’t respond in that time, Cloudflare closes the connection and you’ll see “Error 524: A timeout occurred”.

Reach out to Cloudflare and have them check their settings to make sure they have enough time set for Facebook to reply back, they might need to increase the PHP Time Limit on your site.

It is also possible that it was a one-off, and the Facebook is working again, but it would be good to check with Cloudflare anyways.

If you have further questions please let us know!

Thank you, we will check with our server and cloudflare then. It used to work up to last week. I don’t know what happened now. Hopefully someone will be able resolve this quickly

    Hi @ceyhunyildiz,

Since we haven’t heard from you in a while, we’re hoping that means you were able to get this resolved. I’m going to close this thread out now.

If you’re still having trouble, please open up a new topic and we’ll be happy to help out.

    Take care

Hi, this issue has not been resolved unfortunately. The feeds still can’t be accessed and they do not open. The server said there is nothing wrong with it but the plugin which generated it has some issues with it and they can’t help with.

I do not know anymore what to do and how to fix this. But this feed was working up to 15 days ago before we’ve updated it to the latest version.

    Hi @ceyhunyildiz,

When I googled this issue, I found that Cloudflare has provided the following troubleshooting steps for this error:

    https://support.cloudflare.com/hc/en-us/articles/200171926-Error-524-A-timeout-occurred

Hoping this points you in the right direction!

This means that we have a large product feed with over 1000 products and your plugin is not generating it optimally so the server can handle this request before Cloudflare 100 second timeout occurs. And to be fair, we use 6gb 6 CPU cloud hosting which is more than enough to handle this request if the Facebook plugin was properly generating the feed.

For large product feeds, your plugin needs the adjustment to break down the feed into multiple parts maybe so a timeout won’t occur.

This is the link the plugin has generated into facebook business manager data sources catalogue, does is look correct?

The feed link does not even open when we pause Cloudflare on site.

Also other feeds we generate through another plugin for Google etc. are opening and working fine with or without Cloudflare.

So this issue seems to be related to this plugin.

    Hi there @ceyhunyildiz ,

Thank you for updating us on the syncing issue with us. Syncing over 1000 products can certainly take up some server-side resources.
Would you be able to increase the PHP Time Limit to at least 1200 or 3000?

I understand this is frustrating to experience; however, we can only offer our support for the Facebook plugin as-is. We are working with Facebook to move forward with more development, but currently, our hands are tied until we have more collaboration from Facebook.

We appreciate your understanding and patience with us.

Hi, thanks for your response. Can someone explain to me how come when we had the same server settings, same plugin, same Cloudflare settings, and the same number of products 2 months ago, it was working perfectly?

The screenshots below is the proof , so there must be something wrong with the new plugin update that you can fix in the next one.

    Hi @ceyhunyildiz,

This need/requirement could be due to your site system environment or the updates added to the extensions, but we won’t know exactly if that is the issue until you test it and confirm it worked by increasing the PHP Time Limit.

Let us know how that goes.

    Best!

    Hello

The issue continues and as it turns out it is not because of the server but Cloudflare has 100 second timeout itself. The link generated by this plugin for our Facebook product feed takes more than 100 seconds which is why Cloudflare is terminating the connection while Facebook is trying to download the product data file.

Is there a way that this plugin can do the suggestions placed by Cloudflare on this page – Quick Fix Ideas Number 4

    https://community.cloudflare.com/t/community-tip-fixing-error-524-a-timeout-occurred/42342

Or can we serve this Facebook feed through a subdomain without Cloudflare in which case it works perfectly?

    What are your suggestions?

    Hello @ceyhunyildiz ,

Thanks for sharing the additional information.

We are not actually sure if it will be possible to “Run the scripts via a grey-clouded subdomain or change the script so that it kicks off a long-running background process and quickly returns a status which the browser can poll until the background process has completed”. This will require custom development which is beyond the scope of our support policy.

You can create an issue to see if the developers of the extension can suggest any workaround to be able to use Cloudflare with Facebook for WooCommerce.

Another way is to contact one of our customization partners to make changes to the extension to support Cloudflare for your site: https://woocommerce.com/customizations/

    Thank you ??

    Hi

Thanks for your response. I havent found a solution to this problem and therefore I have turned off the product sync feature and uploaded the products using another feed generator plugin which is more reliable

    Hi @ceyhunyildiz,

Thanks for letting us know. It’s unfortunate you weren’t able to make this work with your unique situation of a large number of products and Cloudflare’s limitations.
