• I’m stuck at step 4 of the famous 5 min. installation: Upload everything. Upload everything where? I’m assuming to my SQL database.

First off, I am an experience PC user but not familiar with SQL and PHP.

So, unless I’m misunderstanding something, I need to upload my wordpress directory to my SQL database. (?) Now, I just purchased web hosting from 1and1.com, and I’ve set up an SQL database there (it’s behind a firewall, they say, so it says I can’t access it directly from a home PC).

    How do I upload everything???

    Thanks,

  • When it says “upload everything” it means upload the contents of the wordpress archive file to your web host. So you need to transfer the files from the unpacked archive into your web space using an FTP client.

What is my wordpress archive file?

Transfer to any particular place in my webspace?

    Thanks,

By archive file I mean the zip file that you downloaded from wordpress.

“any particular place” really depends on where you want your blog files to be.

    did you sort it?
It’s also worth noting that if you upload the files loose in the root directory of your FTP directory, then the blog will be on the home page.
I’m kinda having a few of my own problems installing too.
Did you rename the wp-config-sample.php file by removing the word ‘sample’? Are you meant to do that (having edited the DB details!) ?

Yes remove the “-sample” so it is just “wp-config.php” edit that file, with the necessary information, including the name of your database, the user and the password for that user, it all works well try the install script. But read the readme.html file first before doing anything.

Oops can the mod delete my last two posts, the damn server threw a “408 error” and I kept posting just in case it went though.
