CMS for existing site
-
My existing website has hundreds of pages of content currently maintained using Envision Web. This works okay as we have just one author and we’re able to maintain a consistent design using templates. Now we’re planning to add a blog and since we’re installing WP anyway it seems like it might make sense to use it for CMS over the whole site if that’s feasible. I’m not sure it would be, though.
One issue is converting existing html pages to WP pages. The content is almost entirely text, nothing fancy going on, but I still imagine a hugely labor-intensive conversion process, where each individual page is converted by setting up a WP page, copying content from the old page, and fixing formatting and so forth.
Another issue is that many sites link to pages within our site — in fact, several pages rank above out home page as landing pages. We would either have to find a way to keep the same URL for these pages or load up .htaccess with redirects.
Is there a reasonable way to do this? Or should I give up on the idea and just build the blog into my existing un-CMS’d site?
