    Thanks for the code Hannah, but now can’t get into my site. Can you please help? Ouch.

    This was the code given:
    1. hannah nav site #nav-main ul.sf-menu a {
    2. padding: 10px 2px;
    3. }
    4.
    5. @media (min-width: 992px){
    6. .kad-header-left {width:28%; padding-right:0;}
    7. .kad-header-right {width:72%; padding-left:0;}
    }

    Now can’t get into my site. Only getting this Error:

    Parse error: syntax error, unexpected ‘px’ (T_STRING) in /home2/angelswus/public_html/wp-content/themes/virtue/lib/custom-css.php on line 45

    Appreciate your help.

  • Hey,
    Based on your error you edited a theme file. (which you should never do) and you edited a functions file.

    Adding css should be done in the theme options. Or through a child theme.

    The theme has a custom css box in the theme options > advanced settings.

    What you need to do know is login to your server using the cpanel login and going to the web file manager. Then opening the file you edited: public_html/wp-content/themes/virtue/lib/custom-css.php

    and removing all that you added there.

    That will get your site back up.

    Hope that helps,

    My host got me into my site by resetting and everything was gone defaulting to twenty thirteen and when I clicked onto Virtue my dashboard became unavailable again.

    Thinking about leaving wp and going to wix or the like.

    Was not told Where to paste code. I’ll try again with your advice but it doesn’t seem like I can get into that area and Host Gator support didn’t know how to do this simple fix.

    Too bad wp doesn’t list how important a child theme is and automatically makes one.

    Thanks.

    Hey,
    So really a child theme isn’t necessary unless you plan on editing code. And for css adjustments you don’t need and really shouldn’t bother using a child theme.

    Just have to use appropriate places to add css like a css box in theme options or in a plugins custom css box.

    What I suggest is having your host set the theme to the default. Then once you can login just delete the virtue theme and re-install it. that will remove your edits to the theme files.

    ok, I haven’t studied enough on child themes yet, it’s just many here say you should be using one.

    Yes, that was what I was trying to do. Host Gator is worthless.

    It makes sense to just delete Virtue (and reinstall)but HG “Tech Support” was completely clueless, and I couldn’t get to my dashbd to do it. Finally I got to dashbd and did that. I kept repeating to do this And pasting your info but they were incapable of doing these simple things.

    They have never replied to a ticket so tried tech chat. We are making a change — 1 is to leave Host Gator.

    Back onto dashboard but HG deleted/changed my passwords so can’t access my cpanel or webmail.

    Yikes, I would try there phone support, not worked with them but at least they can’t ignore you there.

    Lots of complaints about Hostgator and it’s better to know now while still in baby steps.

    We have a bu and copies of everything. It’ll be easy to redo.
