Code Editor Not Loading and Causing Site to Crash

  • Prior to yesterday, I could easily switch an entire post in editing from the visual editor to the code editor. Something has happened and now when I attempt to switch to the code editor, it never loads and the page becomes unresponsive. I have to close the site and reopen it again to be able to edit.

    I can use the html editor on a single block, just not the code editor on the entire post.

    This is slowing my progress WAY down. Anyone know how to fix this issue?

  • Presuming you haven’t done any Updates or Plugin Changes (Add/Remove) I would look to the database. It needs cleaning on a regular basis otherwise there is a build up of useless data which will definitely slow things down and will cause various problems over time.

    Use a Plugin like Advanced Database Cleaner (https://www.ads-software.com/plugins/advanced-database-cleaner/) to perform database cleaning. This may or may not help with your current problem but database cleaning is something that should be part of regular maintenance for every WordPress site.
