Hi Tobias, I updated my site to the latest WP. Using the Gutenberg editor, I placed the Table shortcode, but the table will no longer collapse when page is opened. It is fully extended.
Can you tell me how to get the table to collapse with the little “+” symbols at the beginning of each line?
    Thanks.

    Hi,

thanks for your question, and sorry for the trouble.

I’m afraid that I can not reproduce this. The table in your link has the collapse feature working without problems for me.

The old link (/listings) still works. This was created a couple of years ago.

The new link here https://socalbizbrokers.com/HOME/ will not collapse. It is the same with Chrome, FireFox, Edge, and Opera. Note that both link to the same table. One link was placed on an older version of WP, the other was placed on the new Gutenberg version.

Because its on the HOME page, I have to keep the site under construction.

    Hi,

it looks like you are showing table 1 on that page, right? If so, what’s the exact Shortcode that you are using on that page? Did you add the responsive=collapse parameter?

    Hi Tobias,
The exact shortcode is [table id=1 /].
Can you tell me where to place the responsive=collapse parameter? It looks like that’s exactly what I need.
Thank you. BTW, I’ve been using your tables for 5 or 6 years now, and I really love them. And you have always been super responsive. (Probably because you come with a ‘responsive’ parameter, eh?)
    Thanks again,

    Hi,

ah, that explains it. You need to change that Shortcode to

    [table id=1 responsive=collapse /]

Please see https://tablepress.org/extensions/responsive-tables/ for more details.
Also make sure that that Extension is installed and activated as a plugin on your site!

    Tobias

Hmmm… ok, I installed the responsive plugin, and copy-pasted your shortcode. No luck. It still isn’t collapsing.
The plugin looks interesting. Can it collapse AND scroll horizontally for smaller devices at the same time?
    Thanks,
    Patty

    Hi,

I just checked https://socalbizbrokers.com/HOME/ again and that table has the collapse feature working nicely.

And no, sorry, that Extension can not add collapse and scroll at the same time. This would not make sense either.

    Hi Tobias,
I’ve cleared the browser cache on all browsers and devices and restarted all devices. The table is not operating consistently. Here’s what I have:

    Desktop:
Chrome, Edge, FireFox, Opera: not collapsing.
    Tablet with Chrome browser:
    Horizontal: not collapsing.
Vertical: not collapsing, but the little green “+” shows up here at each line.
    Phone (Samsung Galaxy 8):
Vertical: it collapses perfectly (yay! This works!)
Horizontal: not collapsing, but the little green “+” shows up here.

I have to go ahead and bring the site back live today, even though the table isn’t working properly.

Please keep me posted as to your understanding of this issue.
    Thank you Tobias,
    Patty

    Hi,

I tested https://socalbizbrokers.com/ on both Chrome and Firefox now and in both cases, the “Main Listings” table had a correctly working collapse mode. The little green “+” appears and when I click it, an extra row appears below that row with the extra information.

    Hi,
There are 2 pages on the site with that same table:
SoCalBizBrokers.com – is the homepage, where the table does not collapse.
https://socalbizbrokers.com/listings-3/ – you will see that it works properly here, same table. But this page was created on an older version of WP.

I just tried it on my new laptop: homepage table doesn’t collapse
I just tried it on my husbands desktop: homepage table doesn’t collapse

If I copy and paste the code from the https://socalbizbrokers.com/listings-3/ page onto any other new page, the table won’t collapse.

I don’t know what to do here, Tobias. Something wonky is going on with it.

Hi, I went to the local internet cafe to check the website. The table on the Home page does not collapse. I called some friends last night to have them check on their computers, and it did not collapse for anyone. The plugin is installed and active, and I copy & pasted the shortcode you gave me. It is clearly not working.
    Tobias, can you help me?

    Hi Patty,

do we maybe have a different understanding of collapsing for the table here?

Here are two screenshots of what I’m seeing if I open the page on a small screen: https://imgur.com/a/JEJgEVf
The first one shows the green + symbols and the second one the expanded content for the first row, after clicking that green +.

Yes, I agree they work on a small screen. But they don’t work on the desktop, for this site is the most important size. Just go to the home page: SoCalBizBrokers.com and scroll down to see the table on a desktop screen. This is the one I’m trying to get working properly. But it’s been a week now, so the owner wants me to change the table to a different table.

[The old table on this other page still works, but I can’t copy or make it work properly on any other page. Here’s the old one SoCalBizBrokers.com/listings-3/].

Tobias, Please use a desktop screen.

If you look at the homepage, you will not see the green “+” buttons. The columns are all dropped open. SoCalBizBrokers.com scroll down to see the table. But you must use something other than a tiny phone screen. That seems to be the only device that works properly. ALL OTHER DEVICES we tried cannot see the “+” and all of the rows are uncollapsed.
This is consistent and repeatable on all devices except my cell phone.

    Hi,

ok, not I understand! ?? You are expecting to see a feature that is intended to be visible only on small screens also on desktop screens. See, the entire purpose of that collapse mode is to only collapse columns if they don’t fit on the screen (which is why this is part of an Extension for Responsiveness of tables).

If you want to collapse rows on all screen sizes, you will need a slightly different solution: https://www.ads-software.com/support/topic/how-to-expand-tablepress-row/#post-3741566

    Tobias
