Collect payment only after shipping, including partial payment

Has anyone had luck setting up a store to collect payment only upon shipment, like Amazon does.

As a very basic approach, you could simply set the payment gateway to authorize the payment so that the order will be marked as on-hold.

Then when the order status is changed to either “Processing” or “Completed” and the order is shipped, the funds will be captured. This might do the trick for the scenario that you mention.

Interested too in being able to collect multiple payments, if an order ships in multiple parts. Sometimes the product may be out-of-stock when the order comes in.

This issue requires a more complex solution. I was reviewing this extension that allows to split orders but it won’t let you collect multiple payments for each of the multiple parts.
