Color and Pattern overlay do not show up!

When I save the slides, after adding a color overlay and pattern (visible in the preview pane below the controls) the save is successful. But when I preview I don’t see the effect! Even the page using ti shows the slider without these effects. If I return to edit, I see the controls having the color overlay and pattern just as I had set.

My settings ARE saved, just that they never get to show up in the running slider!
