Hi @warwickyoga,
Thanks for your review and sorry to hear you had issues with your images after optimization.
The free version of the plugin includes only lossless image optimization and shouldn’t have any effect on image quality so we would like to investigate further why this happened to you.
Could you please use our contact form here https://premium.wpmudev.org/contact/#i-have-a-different-question and provide us with a few of your original images so we can do some tests with them on our end?

although their constant info thing (top right corner) annoys the heck out of me when I’m trying to work on the design. I know it’s trying to tell me that there is an issue with some silly thumbnails, but no solution to it!
Notification on the front end is visible only for the site admin and it’s referring to images that are larger than their holders, which is something Google doesn’t like and will affect your site performance scores as the site will load images larger than needed.
You can try using smaller images if the page structure is created by you, or get in touch with your theme developers so they can adjust their thumbnail sizes and use the ones that are the same size as their HTML holders.
You can always disable the Infobox by going to Smush > Dashboard > Tools and toggle the “Detect and show incorrectly sized images” option.
Best regards,
Predrag
