Colorify

Hi I’m new to Uni cpo I’m struggling setting up a colorify product
What type of image is to be used for the colorify feature. which file type should i use to change the colour of a each layer? will it work with a png?
how is each layer linked?
I have read the docs and had a look at the demo and i cant figure it out?
