Column wont work

Maybe my theme is being stupid but Im trying to get 2 columns on my page. One I want more than half the width about and the other a quarter so i am using a span 2 and and span 1. But any combination isnt working. I want the text on the left and an image on the right. pretty simple but the image WILL NOT go to the right of the text.
