Combined Ask and List page

Reading through the support forum, I found a previously answered question re combining the ask and list page: https://www.ads-software.com/support/topic/combined-ask-and-list-page?replies=5
I really like the sound of this, but am not able to make it happen.
I followed the directions from the faq re theme override. Copied the list.php file from the anspress/theme/default, and pasted the code from the link above. There was no change to my anspress page; just the list of questions.
Has there been a change since the question above was asked 4 months ago? Or could the fact that I am using a child-theme matter? I created the anspress dir here, as it is active.
