• hi guys

You might say go and ask the developers and company who has sold this to you, but not getting any help from there, many other users are asking for help, but no reply from support.

    Here is my issue:
I need some help with the issue of the image:
    this is my website: https://www.afghans.com.au

when you go to this website you can’t see the images under ‘Featured Stories’, on the top, you can see the number ‘1’ and ‘2’ but no images shown.

I am using this image: https://www.afghans.com.au/images/valy_awb1.jpg

I have used the custom field ‘Featured’ in the post that I have created, in the past I had made the posts and the images were showing, but recently its not. Even if I make the old posts as featured, the images are not showing up.

The only thing different I have done is that I have updated my WP to 3.2.1 so I wonder if thats done anything?

I hope I can get some help from here.

    Please help out asap.

    Thank you so much.

    sorry Marventus

i did a trial and what happens if a post is clicked as ‘FEATURED’ no images are shown on the page, but if I untick the featured category on the right hand side, it will show the the images on the pages.

    featured: https://afghans.com.au/?p=269 shows no image

not featured: https://afghans.com.au/?p=133 shows the images

    Hi,

Even though the slider works with custom fields to retrieve featured images, you still need to set a featured image to featured posts so that the images get displayed elsewhere (in the home when they loose their feature status or in posts).
If you will be using the same images for the slideshow and for posts, then you don’t really need the custom field setup. You could just go with option number three of the ones I suggested earlier:

    1. Use the old slider with a featured category;
    2. Use the new slider with a “featured” custom field. In that case, you would have to undo the changes I suggested in my previous post;
    3. Use the new slider with a featured category, in which case you can keep the changes.

That would mean implementing my changes, so that the slideshow retrieves the featured image associated to each featured post instead of the custom field image path (which is the way that it is now).

    I hope that helps.

    Hi Marventus

I hope I got it right, what you wanted me to do?

I removed the custom field details and url from the post.

I went to the General Settings:
Unticked: Enable the brand new featured slideshow which uses large images.

Went back to index.featured.php and did the changes as you suggested.

I get the slideshow working: https://imagebin.org/182854

But the problem is that when I click the posts, the images still don’t show up. from the right hand side option of the CATEGORIES, if I untick ‘FEATURED’ the images will be shown on the posts page.

    https://imagebin.org/182236

so not sure why the images wouldn’t show up?

BTW, how can you increase the posts page to have the whole article, mine got half of it not all?

    thanks

    Hi,

Since you introduced the changes I suggested, if you like the look and feel of the new slider, you can turn it on and it will work just the same.

As for the images inside posts, your single post template does not seem to retrieve the featured image of each post. So in order to display an image inside a post, you have to insert it in your post from the post editing window (the same way you did for your “Go Skate Day Kabul: Kids Take the Streets” post).

BTW, how can you increase the posts page to have the whole article, mine got half of it not all?

I didn’t really understand your question. IF you are talking about the fact that the single post frame is narrower than your nav menu and footer, that’s because the space is reserved for widgets. Once you insert widgets in your posts, the empty space should disappear.

    Hi Marventus

Thanks for your reply. I am using the bigger image slider. My problem is that if I make the “Go Skate Day Kabul……” Post as featured in the category on the right hand side (https://imagebin.org/182236), the image will not be shown on the page.

    Go Stake Day….Post

    Normal article: NOT FEATURED
    https://imagebin.org/183219
It has the image and the FULL ARTICLE

Category set to: Featured and Sports:
    https://imagebin.org/183218

    Result:
    – No Image shown
    – Article is shorter than the full article, which was shown above image
    https://imagebin.org/183220

“BTW, how can you increase the posts page to have the whole article, mine got half of it not all?”

By this comment I meant that if an article is set as featured, the article is cut off half way, like the above image. That’s what I was trying to say.

Thank you very much for your help and for your time, I hope we get this fixed so I don’t keep asking you so many questions…

    Thanks

    Hi,

I just tested the single post view, and the post category does not seem to play any role in the image display. In order to display images inside both regular and featured posts, you have to insert an image inside the actual post, not just set a Featured image.
For regular posts: insert an image in each post, and the image will be displayed both in the home page and single post view.
For featured posts, you have to set a Featured image to be displayed in the slider, and also insert an image inside the post to be displayed inside the post. It can be the same image or different ones, depending on your preferences.

As for featured posts being cut, I couldn’t replicate that behavior in my blog, and in yours, the only post that appears to do that is “Eid Al Adha Mubarak”. Perhaps you accidentally inserted a Read More tag in that post?

Also, one last thing: I would like to recommend you to disable the Run on Load option from the Nizam Donya – Eid Mubarak video, since it is being played automatically every time the page is loaded, which is not only very user-friendly, but also consumes significant resources (particularly, for users who might not want to see it). This is only an advice though.

    Good luck!

Edit: I almost forgot. Here are two screenshots about how to insert images inside posts:
    Screenshot 1;
    Screenshot 2.

    Hi Marventus

    Thanks for the reply.

As in my previous reply, I mentioned that when I make a post as featured the image that I do insert doesn’t show up and the article’s length gets cut.

I do know that I have to insert the image in the post through ‘Screenshot 2’ because in the past I have done this.

With the featured image, I also know that the custom field “Featured” has to be used with the full address, which is what I am doing currently and its working.

I am not sure how come in your testy there is not connection between featured category and the image not showing, but in mine I am facing this issue.

With the featured posts being cut, wih the “Eid Al…”, since it was being cut I have typed “Click here to read the rest of the article.” my self not the template.

    Also with the screen shots:

This is a normal post, not featured and its showing the image as well as the full article, https://imagebin.org/183219

As soon as I make it featured (https://imagebin.org/183218)
the image disappears and the post text cuts down, even though its the same post as above, with the image inserted…….

Thanks for the advice of the video, i have removed “AUTO PLAY” its good to get feedback from visitors, so thank you.

Please have a look at this page: https://afghans.com.au/?p=315

This is a featured post, this screen
    https://imagebin.org/183242

As you can see it has the image inserted in the post in the normal way as well as having the featured custom field:
    https://imagebin.org/183244

So i am not sure what is happening?

    thank you for your help.

    Hi,

You were right: I ran some additional tests, and images are not displaying for featured posts.
I fixed this on my test blog from the Comfy Theme General options by assigning a different category for “Videos” (i.e., selecting different categories for Featured posts and Videos).

Let me know if that works for you.

    Hi Marventus

Oh good, yeah its working now, I selected “NONE” I can see the images now.

what is this option for? I mean to show the videos on the slider?

Also did you find about the article being cut too?

    thanks

    Marventus

    (@marventus)

My articles were not being cut, but I have to say that they are all very short since I use them for testing purposes only.

    Hello people,

Hi I’m having issues as well with the “featured story” section on my site.

    My site is retailspotlight.com

I can’t figure out the coding. Any help? Is there a plugin I’m supposed to install?

@drojas11: You don’t seem to have published any posts on your blog. Try to publish some test posts following the directions given in this thread for setting featured and post images, and it should work as expected.
    Cheers!

@drojas11: You seem to have solved your pb. For future reference, a little feedback is always appreciated.
@rgedit: Could you please mark this thread as resolved? Only the original poster can. Thanks!
