• Greetings,

The navigation buttons for the comics on my site are not working consistently. I get messages from readers very frequently about how the “Next” button is not showing up in its place under the comics. When I go and check the problem, I frequently find the same problem. Other times, I see the navigation buttons as they should appear. For instance, I just received an email report that there was no “next” button on this comic: https://www.worldoftheophany.com/comic/coa-3/

I went there and saw that it was not there. About twenty minutes later, I reloaded it, and I it did appear. I have tried this across several different browsers and am still getting very inconsistent results.

The other night I was talking to someone who had been trying to read the comic and had said the “next” navigation button was never there for. I opened the comic on my iPhone, sure enough, once I flipped about half way through the comic, the next button stopped appearing. I had to manually enter the URL for every comic to get it to appear.

At the moment, I am using Safari on the Mac and all the navigation buttons appear to be present, but I am also looking at it on mobile with my iPhone and the “Next” button is only appearing on about 40% of the comics.

Why am I getting this widely inconsistent behavior with the navigation buttons? I need them to be there.

    Thanks,
    Heath

  • the pages seem to be cached: <!--Generated by Endurance Page Cache-->

have you (temporarily) tried to remove/flush/reset your caching plugin to see if that changes the links?

That could be it. Thank you, because I never would have thought about that because I do not have a caching plugin installed.

Upon searching for more information on “Endurance Page Cache” I found that is something that BlueHost installs with your WordPress installation and is not a plugin that shows up in your WordPress admin. I FTPed into /wp-content and found this mysterious Endurance cache folder and deleted it. Maybe that was the source of the problem. It appears to be working now, but it had been intermittently before, so I am going to keep muy finger crossed.

Thank you again for the tip.
