comment anchor not working on index page

    Yesterday I themed a WordPress blog for a client and have been testing functionality. It seems the comment link underneath the title of the post will not work unless right clicked and opened in a new window or tab. I saw on the forums several questions similar to this but no solution. Here is what I have done:

    -double checked that the url in the wordpress admin are correct
    -reset the theme to classic and checked the links – they work with classic
    -compared the source in the theme I based my template on to the new theme, and they do not appear to be different.

    If anyone has a clue as to what may be wrong, drop me a line.
