I’ve done many searches but haven’t, as yet, found the answer to my problem.

I’m running version 6.0.1 on paid hosting.

The theme I’m using ACL I don’t believe has a function separately relating to commenting.

I noticed recently I just haven’t been getting comments – not for a long time. A long, long time, actually. I’ve gone and checked all my settings for discussions and allowing people to submit comments on new posts was switched off – no idea how or when. I don’t recall ever doing that. I now have it switched on.

I also have comments ticked in the screen elements part of the post. So why is the comment box just not showing? I don’t get it. It is showing on posts dated 2021 and 2020 but not on posts dated from March 2022 onwards and I can’t figure out why. Hoping someone might be able to guide me?

I published a post today which the link leads to.

  • Hi @proverbs31woman,

Does it show the comment section if you try switching to one of the default WordPress Core themes such as Twenty Twenty-One and de-activate all the plugins?

I should have thought of that, shouldn’t I have, @kaavyaiyer. Just gave that a try, but no, it’s not showing up in the Twenty Twenty Two theme at all. So clearly not a theme issue but something to do with WordPress. I appreciate you replying. I’m in Australia so appreciate the timing for responses here.

I’ve found the issue! I don’t like the new ‘Block’ format so use Classic Editor instead.

I found this post which showed where the right-hand bar is for enabling comments but couldn’t see it in the format I’m using. So I thought maybe I’ll disable the classic editor plugin for a bit and then go to the latest post and check the right-hand sidebar. Sure enough, there it was so I could tick for comments and refreshed and now it shows.

I find that incredibly annoying – I’m surely not the only one who prefers the Classic Editor style?

At any rate, it’s now resolved and hopefully my question here will resolve this issue for anyone else.
