Hi. What if I don’t want to force users to fill the Name field if they don’t want to by unchecking the option “Comment author must fill out name and e-mail” in Settings > Discussion? Your plugin seems to be okay with a missing email address, but if the name is empty, the comment can’t be submitted. Could you please make your plugin take this into account? Thanks.

    Hi Devtard,

That isn’t controlled by WP-SpamShield. If you have that setting unchecked, it will allow blank author names and blank emails, per the WordPress setting.

If you have that setting unchecked and you’re still having the issue, then it may be blocked by another anti-spam plugin that you have installed, or something else is going on.

If you want to see if something is being blocked by WP-SpamShield, then you can turn on Blocked Comment Logging Mode and see.

If your blocked comment is turning up in the log, then please submit a support request at the WP-SpamShield Support Form and we’ll be happy to look into it for you, or explain why its being blocked. (Please do not post logs here on the WordPress forums.)

Just an update for anyone else reading this.

Devtard submitted a support request with the error log and helped us catch a bug that was causing the undesired behavior mentioned above if the author name and author URL were both blank. (The comments would go through if there was a URL.) This will be fixed in the next release.

@devtard Props to you for catching and thank you for submitting the support request, and for providing us the log info that allowed us to fix this.
