• Lately we’ve had a few users let us know that they are unable to post comments to our blog. We can leave a problem as ourselves, no problem. Here’s what one person said, “Tried 4x to comment on your blog. Says I’m logged in to WP, but after commenting prompts me for my password again~which it then says is incorrect. Strange part is I am logged in at WordPress[dot]com & able to comment on other blogs using WP now.”

I haven’t added any new plugins lately. The last comment we got was about 10 days ago, though there were a couple of pingbacks I approved. We use Jetpack comments, and there was an update to that in the past few days. I read about Jetpack conflicts with W3 Total Cache’s minify engine, but we’re not using the minify features, and there’s never been a problem before. I read the forums, but don’t see anything similar that’s not really old. Our url is https://turtlestravel.com. Any advice/thoughts would be appreciated.

Your self-hosted WP site has absolutely no connection to wordpress.com. Commentators will need to log into your site to comment – irrespective of whether they are logged into wordpress.com or not.

Thanks, Esmi. I understand that there’s no connection to wordpress.com, but I don’t understand what he’s doing wrong and unable to make a comment. What password is he being asked for? I think he may be referring to the option in Jetpack Comments where you log in via your WP.com account in order to make a comment rather than entering name, email and website. There seems to be some kind of hang-up with that option. When we tried to log out of everything and make a comment as a new user, the pop-up window came up blank. It gets hung at that point, but if you close the window, it has in fact logged you in. Then the commenting will work. I don’t know.
