comment form on index.php

Well, the comments need to be on something. WordPress isn’t set up to allow comments on your blog in general. They need to be tied to a post or Page.

If you’re just looking for a way for people to get ahold of you, check out WP-ContactForm.

Or if you’re looking for a guestbook, create a WordPress Page and you’re set.

Finally, if you still want a comment form on your front page where people can leave comments in your guestbook, go to your guestbook Page and copy the code for the comment form at the bottom of the page. Paste that in your sidebar or wherever and tweak it to fit.

I believe the contact form plugin requires you to have it in side the post or page itself, not in a sidebar or otherwise as part of the theme; am I wrong?

There was a hack for putting a comments form on the homepage, and I’m just trying to figure out what that is.

In the meantime, I’ve just copied the entire form html into the sidebar template. You can see this here: https://www.UpMarketSEO.com

But this way the form pass on the value for the page/post number/title which is very useful in figuring out where people are coming from when they write you. Usually it’s in reference to something on that page so the comment doesn’t make sense otherwise.

I’m not using WP for a strict blog which is why I’m interested in this.
