• Currently, I have all comments set to moderation, so every time a user comments, the page will refresh to show their newly made comment with an “if comment is unapproved” section underneath.

I want to have a comment reward system, where a user is shown an opt-in form (so that they can collect their gift) underneath the “if comment is unapproved” section, for every 7th comment they make. So, each 7th comment will unlock a different gift/opt-in form.

I also I want to figure out how many comments the user has already made, so that if a user is in between 7 comments, the comment form heading will say, “<commenter>, you’re only # comments away from your next gift! Write your comment now!”

Or if they’ve already made a comment, for the unapproved section to say, “Thanks for commenting, as per our comment policy, your comment is awaiting moderation…In the meantime, guess what? That was your #th comment so far, which means you’re only # comments away from your next gift! Read a different blog post and write a comment for that.”

    Is this possible?

I will moderate every comment and blacklist users after 3 strikes, so it would be hard for someone to “game/scam” the comment reward system (I hope).

  • Sure, how to implement such however would require a study of your site and rather advanced knowledge of site customization…

Also, even with moderated comments, you do realize how easy such would be to game/scam?

I understand what you are trying to accomplish, but this may not work out as well as desired.

If you are doing so for page ranking, please note that all major search engines no longer consider comments for SEO weight. Basically the system has been so abused, they had to.

    Relevant content is.

    Thanks for replying.

No, it’s not for SEO, it’s purely to get users to do micro-commitments so that they follow through with opt-ins.

I plan on moderating every comment and blacklisting users after 3 strikes, so it would be unlikely (I hope) for someone to game the system. Even if they did, what I really want is their opt-in. Their comments are just gravy.
