    Hi Kerms,

    You’re very welcome!

I took a look at your site. You’re using “OneAll Social Login” to power your comments (according to the signature link below the comments), completely bypassing WordPress’ comment system. WP-SpamShield isn’t even engaged, so that’s why you’re getting the comment spam. It’s not that WP-SpamShield isn’t working…it’s that you’re using a third party commenting system. Please see the Known Issues and Plugin Conflicts in the plugin documentation as this is covered under third party commenting systems.

    I hope that helps.

    Hi Scott,

    Thanks for the quick response!

I didn’t see OneAll Social Login in the known conflicts so I didn’t know that would be a problem. I’m actually using native WordPress comments, but allowing users to authenticate through OneAll Social Login.

I went ahead and disabled OneAll Social Login for now. I am still getting quite a few spam comments come in. Please let me know any suggestions you have.

    Thanks!

    Hi Eric,

    You’re very welcome!

We did list third party comment systems in the known conflicts, so that would be included.

I see you’re also using a CAPTCHA …not sure if it’s a plugin or part of your theme. Either way it’s modifying the comment form to go to: ?isCommenting=yes – normally that would post to wp-comments-post.php so it’s bypassing the default WordPress comments.

But, if you’re getting spam coming in, then it’s likely not going through WP-SpamShield at all. It’s got its reputation for being rock solid for a reason. ??

If you enable the logging feature in WP-SpamShield, and “Log All Comments” you will be able to tell if it’s going through WP-SpamShield or not. If it is, you will see spam in the log, and if it’s bypassing it, the log will be empty. If you do see anything in the log, then submit it to us on the WP-SpamShield Support Page. If you have any further issues, please submit them there so we can look into it more fully.

    Thanks for the info Scott.

The ?isCommenting=yes does go pass onto WP Comments, but it does seem to be bypassing WP-SpamShield as it does so. The only thing in the Log is Registrations, not comments. The ?isCommenting is a customization so that’s probably my issue. Thank you for your help.

    You’re very welcome.

If you remove the customization, and go back to the WordPress default (but use WP-SpamShield), you can kill two birds with one stone…get rid of the CAPTCHA (which will make your website users love you ha!) and make your spam problem utterly disappear.

You are very welcome my friend!
