Comment Spammers – Interesting Problem

  • Hi Everyone,

    I have turned off comments and turned off notification and yet I still get comment spammers and the notification emails are coming to me.

    My blog is https://www.hometownquotes.com/blog

    When I try to leave a comment it tells me they are off, so I wonder how these people are leaving comments? I am sure I need to delete some file or something.

    Any help is appreciated! Thanks.

  • Try removing wp-comments.php/wp-comments-post.php from your installation.

    Thanks! I will try that and see what happens. Hopefully it will work as I have been bombarded with comment spam…ugh!

    FYI, turning off comments only deactivates comments for future posts. Using this method, you would have to manually edit all previous posts to completely disable comments.

    To quickly and easily deactivate comments, just delete wp-comments-post.php and wp-comments.php as Kafkaesqui suggested.
