Comment without moderation

  • I had someone post a comment and it appeared right away, without waiting for me to moderate.

    I have the following settings:
    “An administrator must approve the comment (regardless of any matches below)” = CHECKED

    “Comment author must fill out name and e-mail” = CHECKED

    I am using Version 2.0.1

    The comment is a legitimate/useful one by a known person. Why would the comment appear without being approved by the moderator?

    Can anbody give me an idea of what’s causing comments to bypass moderation?

    look at the first line of the comment. does the line have strong tags?

    I have also had this problem (comments with no email not being moderated) and yes, they usually do have strong tags.

    If they have strong tag – they are not comments but trackback.

    Oh, ok. Didn’t realize that. So I went into Options – Discussion and turned off “Allow link notifications from other Weblogs (pingbacks and trackbacks.)”

    So my questions now are: was that the right answer and will that prevent trackbacks on older posts as well? (On the individual posts “allow pings” is still enabled.)

    2. No, does not affect old posts.

    The first line of the comments don’t have strong tags. What else could account for them bypassing moderation?

    I’ve just installed WP. Having used it before, I made sure I’d set all the options for not allowing comments without moderations etc.

    I installed Akismet as well.

    Then I logged out, cleared cookies, cache etc. Went to the blog and managed to comment straight away without approval.

    And I still got an email saying the comment needed approving!

    What’s wrong?!
