Comment Won’t Turn Off No matter what I do

  • Hello:

    I recently attempted to change themes and then reverted back to my original. After doing so it turned commenting on which I never had.

    I followed various instructions to turn off all commenting on the description page and then ultimately ended up activating the plugin called, Disable Comments.

    I chose the universal turn off setting.

    However, now when I go to my blog I notice Facebook commenting is on. That was never enabled and if I go to look at my widgets it isn’t enabled. How do I get it off?

    Allow/Disallow comments:

    To disable/able comments on future Pages/Posts, uncheck/check “Allow people to post comments on new articles” in Settings -> Discussion. Then where you create/edit posts or pages in admin, check if you have ticked comments for your posts/pages in the “discussion” box below the editor. If you don’t see the “discussion” box there, in the ‘screen option’ dropdown field (located near the top right), there are tick-boxes to show the ‘discussion’ box for the posts/pages. Tick mark it. In the ‘discussion’ box below the post/page editor, you can then allow/disallow comments for the page

    Thank you for the response. However, I no longer have the option to go to Settings > Discussion as I installed the plugin Disable Comments.

    Previously, I had attempted those steps but did not remove the commenting area either.

    Try disabling the plugin “Disable Commends” and switching to another theme and see if the comments behave according to your settings.

    If so, then it’s likely an issue with your theme. If your themes a free theme, you can post in your theme’s support subforum to get more help, if it’s a premium theme, you’ll have to go through your theme developer’s support system to get further help.
