comment_status & ping_status closed for all posts, checkboxes still show checked

    In phpMyAdmin I changed all comment_status & ping_status to closed in the wp_posts table.

    When I manage a post, the checkboxes in Discussion (Allow Comments & Allow Pings) are still checked.

    I want to TURN OFF comments and pings for all old posts.
