• Commenting on most, maybe all of my posts on https://john-s-allen.com/blog/ mysteriously was closed overnight. Also some commenting settings changed, for example “allow comments only with approval of an administrator” was enabled. Commenting on some posts also was disabled earlier, without my input

What is happening? This would require that someone else alter SQL in my blog. Is this a known hack? Can it be done without someone’s knowing my password? I am the only administrator of this blog and I don’t share out my password.

  • I would change the admin password making sure it is a strong one (without a strong password a brute force attack can compromise your site in short time), change the settings back, and review if there are any rogue posts or comments and also check if the site seems to run ok…fyi, it took b.scorecard a long time to pull in when I loaded your site.

Also, if you use that same password anywhere else such as to log into sites or for emails, change those password also.

It is just as likely that some site you log into was compromised and your data stolen…these malicious bots then scan for your info online, etc and could in fact log in as you if they discovered you use WordPress.

And last, ensure your computer is clean of virusus/malware.
