Comments closed by default for my author's posts?!

  • I am the administrator of a blog, and just recruited two contributors/authors.

    A very strange thing is that in all their posts, the comments section will be closed, and no one able to comment.

    I didn’t change any settings, and comments still work on my (the administrator) posts. I also logged in with their accounts and checked all the settings, without finding anything suspicious.

    Why is comments being closed by default on the contributor/author post, but not on mine?!

    Hardly a good start to recruit contributors..

  • have the editor/contributor edit one of their posts
    at top right, click on “Screen Options”
    enable commenting
    now when you create/edit a post there will be a place at bottom of page to enable comments or not per post
