• Hi, I have a blog located at x-entertainment.com/updates

The person who handles my WordPress coding made some changes yesterday (included paged comments), and now, I’m finding that the comments field/form has completely vanished from new entries.

All entries made prior to yesterday’s tinkering are visible and working. But on new entries, the comments field simply does not show up.

Any ideas? He’s away for the weekend so I can’t ask him to help. ??

    Anyone? ??

I can’t figure this one out for the life of me. All of the correct php call-outs seem to be in place. And it’s only happening on new entries.

I’ve tried everything. All I can think of is that something went awry when my custom coder paged the comments, but disabling that function isn’t solving anything.

    To reiterate:

All previous entries are fine, with working comments and visible comment fields.

On new entries, the comments field is not showing up. (And I don’t know if that means comments aren’t working on new entries, because without the comments field visible, there’s no way for me to add one.)

Are you sure that comments are still enabled? Disallowing comments would have exactly that effect, and your guy may have done that for some reason then forgotten to turn them back on. Of course, if that were case there should be some kind of notice where the comment form would usually be, saying something like: “Comments are not allowed for this post.”

If it’s not that then the problem is likely in the code. Looking at the source from your site, it doesn’t look as if the code that makes the form is being put on the page. Could you post the relevant template code?

Hi there, I have checked to see that comments are enabled, and they are.

Thank you for offering to help — could you let me know which php code you’d like to see?

    (annoying bump….sorry, i’m desperate)

If anyone willing to help wants me to post part of my code to help ID the problem, please let me know.

    Bump.

    (@problematic23)

Still looking for an answer. ??

    Hmmm!

Just to triple check here, on the edit post screen in the ‘Discussion’ section, the “Allow comments on this post” box is still ticked?

Also, on the Settings > Discussion page, the “Allow people to post comments on new articles” box is also ticked?

(some people tend to get annoyed with repeated bumping by the way… yes I know posts disappear quickly here)

    (@problematic23)

I’m very sorry about the repeated bumping — I’m just going a little batty right now as the blog is a semi-business and the loss of a comments field is a real nuisance. (Though I know my issues are no more important than the next — I just didn’t want anyone to assume I got my answer since the post was all the way down the page.)

And yes, both of those are ticked. ??

    No worries. ??

Ok, well looking through your site, it’s not just new posts, it’s some old posts too, but only if they have zero comments.

Can you post your page.php file? Don’t forget to put it all between backticks: `

    (@problematic23)

Sure, let me get that out now and figure out backticks — thank you so much for your help!
