• Hi,

I have a WP site setup, all options to post comments etc are turned off as the pages want to be static.

Even though i′ve switched off commnets etc I get daily posts which go into the Pending Comments section of the WP Admin Panel. I don′t really understand how people can make comments when they are switched off in the WP-Admin.

    Can I stop these?

Can anyone advise on this? 5 comments posted only this morning, 20 or so over the weekend. How are comments being posted to pending when they are turned off?

I assume they are spammy comments? Spammers always find sneaky ways to add comments. Sometimes it’s because the comment form is just hidden on the page (but still visible in the source code), sometimes they find ways to add comments directly in the database.

Maybe some individual posts allow comments (overriding the general comments settings)? Check a post and look under the “Discussions” setting.

Yeh, spammy for sure. Looks like they are being done by a robot.

There must be a way to stop all new comments posting, isn′t there?

I ticked the “Users must be registered and logged in to comment” and it seems to have stopped these spammy posts for the time being.

I′m still wondering if there is a way to permanently stop comments being made though, these robots seem to be too clever for me. lol.
